I arrived in New York on 23 September 2007 and managed to secure an accommodation in Queens Area, Middle Village, to be prices. It is about 45 minutes from Manhattan, where the UN Office is.
On 25 September 2007 I met Francois Bailet, the UN-Nippon Fellowship program adviser who then briefed me about the program. Basically, I am here in DOALOS is to continue and finish my thesis (academic report) that I have already started in Wollongong. He suggested me to add some more important information that I will obtain during my internship with DOALOS.
Apart from the research matter, coming to New York this time is just perfect to me as the UN General Assembly is running. All states parties are currently in New York and I could say that the destiny of this Planet Earth is being discussed. The situation around the UN building is really busy with a very tight security. No body could pass 44th Street without a UN-ID. Cars, Motorbikes and trucks with "NYPD" logo are everywhere on the street in Manhattan. Snippers are found in many high rises. Simply speaking, amazing.
This is the start of my three-month journey in New York. Welcome to NY.
